The Wrath Of Becky (2023) - Movie Review

When I looked at Becky in 2020, it made for one of the more pleasant surprises in a year that desperately needed as many as it could muster. However, I can’t say I was expecting much else to come from it. So you can imagine how quickly I prioritised checking out its sequel once I discovered its existence. I mean, sure, it’s written and directed by the same duo behind The Open House, one of the most pointless Netflix originals in the history of the platform, but as I got into in that first review, a teenaged vigilante laying waste to neo-Nazis is a pretty damn difficult idea to fuck up. Even on accident, this should allow for some cathartic joy, and thankfully, it offers just that.

Hush (2016) - Movie Review

It’s Mike Flanagan time again… even if it’s under less-than-ideal circumstances. When I reviewed Ouija: Origin Of Evil, I mentioned that Flanagan had three films released this year. Well, that may be technically true, but his second feature Before I Wake doesn’t have an Australian release date as of writing this, meaning that it isn’t eligible for a review just yet. Rather than deal with another quasi-ethical dilemma like when I looked at Vaxxed, I’m going to play it safe this time around. That, and it’s apparently his weakest effort to date, and in an admitted fanboy-influenced thought pattern, I want to keep my pristine impression of the man’s filmography intact for as long as I can. Especially when the man is capable of making films like this.
