In the near future, Britain has gone from merely being one
of the most powerful monarchies in the world to being the ruler. Any
news media that doesn’t conform has been deemed illegal. And in the heart of
Australia, state lines have been redrawn to make way for refugee detention
centres, so that they can be on the mainland while technically not being
located in Australia. It is one of these centres that serves as the main
setting for this film, and holy shit, is this a film that needed to be made.

Annabelle: Creation (2017) - Movie Review
Well, after the unprecedented success of Ouija: Origin Of Evil from last year, a film that I still absolutely adore, I figure it’s about
time to put that hope for better cinema into practice. Between Origin Of Evil showing that it is still possible to make a prequel film that outshines the original and the general
unpredictability surrounding a lot of this year’s releases, I have more than
enough reason to believe that, in spite of how lame the original film was, this
film could still turn out alright. So, let’s take a look at this latest horror
film from the director of Lights Out… wow. I think I just set a world record
for the fastest loss of optimism on that one, but let’s press on anyway.

Holding The Man (2015) - Movie Review
On June 26th of this year, a legal decision shook
the majority of the Western world when it was decided that same-sex marriage
would be made legally recognized for the entirety of the United States. In the
ensuing months, the debate for similar legislation here in Australia has
constantly being brought up and shot back down again with equal vigour. It
would eventually reach the point where, even without having officially solved
anything, the matter would fall away from the public eye like so many other “important”
issues of the past. Given how much of an impact this had on how the rest of the
year would shape up, I would be remiss if I didn’t bring up as we come to a
close on what was a particularly interesting and eventful year. As such, we
come to the last film in my list of releases that slipped by me the first time
through. This is Holding The Man.
