The Legend Of The Five (2020) - Movie Review

Considering the shitstorm currently surrounding J.K. Rowling (and by extension the Harry Potter franchise), part of me really wanted to give this a go. A throwback to first-wave ‘magical Earth hero saving a mystical land’ YA storytelling, and made in my own backyard to boot (not literally, although given the production values of these Aussie indie efforts, you’d be forgiven for assuming so), this definitely piqued my interest. And while there’s definitely some good to it, it’s also incredibly muddled.

Book Week (2018) - Movie Review

The plot: Nick Cutler (Alan Dukes) is a struggling English teacher and even harder struggling author. However, when his latest novel catches the attention of a publisher, he sees a chance to redeem himself for the cock-up he made during the publicity for his last book. As he tries to keep himself out of trouble, rowdy students, romantic entanglements and a whole lot of booze stand in the way between him and some sense of redemption.

OtherLife (2017) - Movie Review

The plot: Programmer Ren (Jessica De Gouw) and her business partner Sam (T. J. Power) are less than a week away from launching their product OtherLife, a breakthrough in biotechnology that allows them to create and administer virtual experiences; in the space of a minute, a person lives out an entire day’s worth of memories. However, as they are trying to iron out the bugs before the big launch, it seems that Ren has been some work of her own with the tech… and if she isn’t careful, she could be stuck in a virtual nightmare.
