Chris Morris. Pizza-faced satirist. One of the leading
voices in British absurdism since Dr. Chapman joined the choir invisible.
Collaborator of fellow politically-minded comedian Armando Iannucci. And as of
this particular film, a sophomore feature-length director. And man oh man, did
he come out as reliably all guns blazing as usual.

Playmobil: The Movie (2019) - Movie Review
One of the main things that keeps me going whenever I’m
covering less-than-ideal features on this blog is the notion that, regardless
of anything else, bad movies tend to give me plenty of material to write about.
No matter how unpleasant a film may be to sit through in the moment, there’s
always the chance for written catharsis afterwards. However, there is such a
thing as giving me too much material. I mean, this is a family film made
to cash in on the success of the LEGO movies, itself based on a counterpart
to the LEGO toy system. I get the feeling that any remarks I have about how
cheap this thing is will only be playing into the obvious, but trust me,
there’s a whole lot else that’s wrong with this thing.

Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation (2018) - Movie Review
The plot: Lonely and overworked, Dracula (Adam Sandler) needs to take a break. Luckily, his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) gets tickets for them and the rest of the Drac Pack to go on a luxury cruise just for monsters. As they indulge in some down time, it seems that Dracula may have found what he's looking for in the ship's captain Ericka (Kathryn Hahn). However, it seems that this cruise isn't all that it seems, and Dracula's old adversary Dr. Van Helsing (Jim Gaffigan) lays in wait to wreak his revenge on all monsters.

Duck Duck Goose (2018) - Movie Review
The plot: As his flock prepares to migrate for the winter, Peng (Jim Gaffigan) finds himself stranded on his own. He comes across two ducklings, Chi (Zendaya) and Chao (Lance Lim), who have also been separated from their flock, and he begrudgingly agrees to join them as they both make their way back to their respective families. However, with the psychotic cat Banzou (Greg Proops) hot on their trails, it seems that their migration has only begun to get difficult.

Hot Pursuit (2015) - Movie Review
Buddy comedies have been around since the idea of ‘comedy’
was given a name and a tangible concept. Hell, buddy cop movies have probably
been around for longer than actual police enforcement, the idea is that old:
Write two characters that are diametric opposites of each other, put them in a
situation that forces them to work together to reach point B; instant comedy…
supposedly. The fact that Danny Glover’s immortal line "I’m getting too old for
this shit" has since gotten more screen time than Glover in his entire
filmography should be a good indicator that, if you’re going to attempt this
kind of story nowadays, you absolutely have to bring something new to the
table. The last buddy film I watched was last year’s Let’s Be Cops, and the
less said about that bit of unfortunate release timing, the better. The last good buddy film I remember watching was
Hot Fuzz, which pretty much skewered every action film trope it could find and
managed to outperform a large number of them at the same time. Based on the trailer
and premise of today’s film, something tells me that we won’t be so lucky this
time around.
