Expecting quality control from a talking animal movie
nowadays is like asking for the world to start making sense: Most of us would
appreciate it, but the chances of it actually happening seem to keep shrinking
with each passing day. The latest effort in this undermined subgenre is yet
another piece of disposable product designed to be shipped directly to the
bargain bin, but this seems to be yet another new variety of bad, even compared
to the films I’ve already covered on here. It’s not just bad; it is so lacking
in quality control that it can’t even maintain consistency in its badness. And
no, that doesn’t mean that it occasionally stumbles into competency. It just
means that it goes from bad to a different kind of bad and back again.

Elliot The Littlest Reindeer (2018) - Movie Review
2018, more so than a lot of years previously, has shown that
the trend of family films about talking animals has been a scourge on the
landscape of modern cinema. It’s the one sub-genre that I can tie to some of
this year’s worst product, and whichever ones that are actually worth bothering
with are few and far between. And sure enough, we got another weaksauce one today.Wednesday, 7 December 2016
Trolls (2016) - Movie Review
Well, in-between our obsession with comic book heroes and
bitching about mostly female casts in movies, we seem to have to tumbled all
the way back into the 80’s. How else do you explain the number of doll/action
figure movies we’ve gotten this year? What’s more, we seem to have latched onto
the 80’s anything-counts-as-inspiration mindset without really taking the time
and effort to properly incorporate them into something them young people today
would like. Case in point, Jem And The Holograms, which was about as jarringly
anachronistic as it gets without any bloody reason for it. Then we have today’s
subject… and if the sight of twerking trolls from the advertising didn’t turn
your stomach, then quite frankly, I need whatever industrial-strength medication
you’re on because I could certainly use it. So, yeah, I’m not expecting
anything good from this. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Please
prove me wrong.
